Here's how to tell if someone is a good friend or not. Call your friend up a few weeks before Live8:
You: Hey, we might be going to cover Live8. Want to come along as my guest?
Friend: No way! That is awesome! This is going to be so cool. I really owe you for this one, I mean, I've seen Roger Waters on his solo tours and I saw Pink Floyd in the nineties, but they haven't played together in like 25 years! I wasn't even going to concerts yet when they broke up. This is huge! Paul McCartney, REM, U2, Sting, The Killers, Velvet Revolver...wow!
You: (Long pause.) We aren't going to the London show. We're covering it from Philly.
Friend: When is this show again? Oh, July 2nd. I think I have a wedding to go to. Let me check. (Short pause.) Yep, I can't travel that weekend. Can't believe I forgot about that! Well, enjoy the show without me. Hey, I have another call coming in that I need to catch.
So my good friend Walter is coming down to cover the show with us. I think he would have come down if it was just a Stevie Wonder concert. How cool is that?

1. I don't blame the first guy. I'm stuck with the Philly show too. What a sad state the popular music in the United States must be if this is representative. Can we at least trade velvet revlolver and the killers or something? Or Green Day?!
