Now, some folks--and we would never, ever be one of these folks--are downloading mp3 and videos file of the performance by BitTorrent from place like here, here, and here. Or even here, here and here.
Pink Floyd Live 8 Bittorrents
The highlight of Live8 for me was Pink Floyd. For the next six weeks you can stream their performance from www.aolmusic.com. The fine folks over there even broke them into tracks for ya: http://music.aol.com/artist/main.adp?tab=songvid&artistid=76669&albumid=0

Live8 Philly wrap up: A lame ending to an amazing day...
In what was the most anticlimatic end to an epic day ever, Richard Gere introduced Stevie Wonder who did a respectable job. However, when Paula Abdul dancing backstage is the highlight of the closing number you know you got a problem. What about doing an updated We are the world? or The times they are a changin' with the entire lineup? Instead we got a local concert promoter congratulating us for doing a good job (thanks). Oh well, at least we can go watch the Pink Floyd on AOLMusic.com. :-)

U2's One (mp3) from Live8 London
No idea where this came from, but I think it's an Mp3 of U2 playing ONE at Live8 London (right-mouse click and save).
Natalie Portman photos...
We mentioned Natalie Portman's shaved head a couple of times on the blog... well, here's a photo stream from someone who was right by the front of the stage.

Africa: Crisis or opportunity?
Some interesting thoughts over at Ethan Zuckerman's blog in response to a previous response by Brian at Black Star Journal.
They basically go back and forth on the pros and cons of celebrities getting involved with causes like Live 8. They are frustrated that people come to the show for the music, but thankful that people are getting educated on the issues. Ethan thinks part of the issue is that many of the peripherally involved celebs look at Africa as a problem and not a diverse content filled with opportunity. A good read if you want to hear how folks who've spent time in Africa think of Live 8.

Live 8 Bittorrents are up--that was quick!
Well, that didn't take long... the show's not even over and people are posting the bittorrents from live8. We'll let you know--in the interest of investigative journalism only--if they are real.

Update: Looks like they are real.

Live 8 commentary from around the blogosphere
Live8 commentary from around the blogosphere (add your favorite quotes and links in the comments!)
"The EU has promised to double aid by 2015. Tony Blair has promised to reach the UN target of 0.7% GDP by 2013. If he unilaterally brought that forward to 2010, we could save an extra 7.5 million lives."
Matthew Tempest quoting anti-globalisation activist Noreena Hertz
Dido did, however, duet with Youssou N'Dour, the first black artist of the day to set foot on stage. And even she couldn't dilute the shivery impact of the beautiful Seven Seconds.
Ouch! commentary on the various artist in London
The month of July? How about San Antonio, Texas? 900,000 dead children each month. 12 MILLION each year. Needlessly. And that's only children. The overall human count is staggering.
The Rabbi Report trying to conceptualize the 30,000 people a day
They didn't come to talk politics. They didn't come to exchange pleasantries. They came to ROCK. And so, for a few brief moments, I was back in high school, sitting in the bucket seat of a bright green, bitchin' Camaro, at 3AM, on my way to White Castle. And then I puked. Just like the good ol' days.
Dimitri Ehrlich live from the show
It may be the spirit of the occasion that has taken me, but I think that if the G8 summit does not get a result next week - and by that I mean a substantial and immediate improvement on the commitments made to date regarding Africa - the nature of the relationship between the people of the G8 countries and their governments will be radically altered.

Should celebs at Live8 accept $16,000 gift bags?
We had this discussion at the Weblogs, Inc. meetup last night. As expected the issue is now hitting the blogosphere and people are crying foul. I don't blame them. A tshirt? Sure, why not. Designer clothes, watches, guitars, and gadgets? Ummm... not good.
Although, my guess is that the sponsors are probably pushing this, not the celebs. A big selling point of getting sponsorships to events like Live8 is that you get to give the celebrities your product to play with. If just one or two celebs wind up using the product in public that gives the sponsors huge value. So, maybe there is some way to justify this as a reward for the sponsors who are paying for today.
However, my ethical radar says if you have to explain an ethics question to this extent it's probably not ethical. It just feels wrong.
Donate the bags... donate your time... make money another day.

It's getting even hotter...
Just heard there were about 30 people lined up at the ambulances dealing with heat stroke. It's nothing to panic about--they got a ton of water and support staff--but if it were 10 degrees hotter it would be a lot worse I bet.

Surprise guest stars?
We’ve heard there are a number of surprise acts coming up at Live8 Philly during the second half of the show. Who would you most like to see show up? Bruce Springsteen? Bob Dylan? Green Day (flying in from Berlin)?
One of the bloggers from AOL Red just had her shirt signed by Def Leppard...
.... and she is very excited as you can see!

Breakdancing is back!
I'm sorry are we at LiveAid or Live8?! Will SmithThe Fresh Prince had breakdancers doing windmills and Madonna just had a couple breakdancer during her set. We're one more breakdancer away from a trend. Come on Jay-Z... someone in your crew has to know how to do a handspin or pop n' lock right?! I better go find my beads!

Madonna at Live 8 London
Madonna just did like a prayer followed by yet another f-bomb (thank goodness AOL has a disclaimer on the live feeds!): "are you f--king ready London!!!"

Natalie Portman for Microloans at Live 8--wow!
As Karina just mentioned Natalie Portman—sporting a shaved head--just introduced the video feed of Coldplay from London (taped). She talked about the impact of microloans on people in developing nations. While entrepreneurs here are busy raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to tens of millions of dollars to start companies, people in foreign countries can start real businesses with thousands—even hundreds—of dollars. I’ve heard a lot of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs talk about venture philanthropy and microloans, but never a celebrity talking to tens of millions of people around the world. It’s and idea who’s time has come, and Live8 is turning out to be a clearing house for education and empowerment. Very inspiring.

Destiny's Child at Live 8
Wow... what a great set. Destiny's Child just took the crowd to another level... that fans loved it! Everyone is dancing like freaks while getting hosed down. Feels like Philly is going to just lift off. I'm loving how they always perform with huge fans blowing their hair back--great effect!
